A few months prior, after a slight misconception between the nation and her leader, Nigerians were “authoritatively” and “officially” exiled from Twitter.
This reactive measure was following an approach (considered really rude) towards taming the impending actions of the ‘head’ custodian of CHANGE in Nigeria. At about midnight, on a blessed day in January, 2022 and just like the proverbial thief in the night, “Twitter Nigeria” was discharged(although not sure if acquitted) and dear Nigerians were quickly made to return from their “power” imposed Tweet exile to various VPN-allowed countries of the world.
Nigerians have been through a lot and one of the places where we ease the stress and anxiety is Twitter. Sincerely, being an undeniable part of a place where without certainty, it endlessly rains ONLY promises of change, could be mentally challenging. This is not to disregard the fact that most people in a bid to express their relief mechanism, sound woke, serious or sad, take their statements off the hook.
“Giving to Ceaser what belongs to Ceaser is never a myth, regardless of whose ox is gored”
The above sentiment may be true or not but conscientiousness is truly expedient and this is to avoid the detrimental effects of going against the “rules” laid down by the governing authorities of any place. It is the not-so-civil “off the hook” measures towards making our point as a people that the lead to the subsequent counteractions. Now, giving to Ceaser the honor due to him is necessary but not in the slightest, a chance to display ignorance.
It is therefore a great thing to make use of our wits and influence as “tweeters”(read as social media users). However, we could do better as a people or still resolve to lay the blame of all our issues on the “leaders”. Sincerely, not much could be done about how one decides to make use of his/her social pages. We’ve got the will and initiative and we are the ultimate human resource, after all.
That said, the law abiding citizens of my dearest Nigeria are back to announce their “undiluted” patriotism even though we all know their VPN travel history. Haha! It’s just an interest to watch how resiliently we adapt, and even without so much OFFLINE ado.
