A person’s engagement with your profile especially if it concerns with what you’re worth, should be impressing, to say the least. Everyday, people set out to look for jobs without first checking the substance of their CV – A written representation of them. No doubt, your CV is you packaged in a few minutes read. This may be an old tale to you, but it’s still relevant.
Denotatively, your CV is a document where the summary of your background, education and experiences is written in simple but relevant terms.
There’s no particular format or size for a CV but there’s a standard and that standard is nothing short of the entirety of your experiences with APT details. Notice the emphasis on apt.
Also, depending on the level of people’s experiences, CVs vary. You cannot compare the complexity and work details of an experienced and over-time promoted individual with relevant work presence in different firms to an entry-level personnel. O wrong na!
Things that Must Be in Your CV:
Contact/personal details –
This majorly includes your name, email address and phone numbers.
Profile/Brief Personal Statement/Objective –
This is what makes you stand out from others. It’s a brief description of what key attributes you have and what experiences you seek in your career. It’s usually seen before the rest of your CV details.
Education –
You’re totally free to make a list of all your studies and certifications. Make sure every information here is authentic.
Work Experience –
You’re expected to make a genuine list of your relevant experiences to the job you’re applying for. Normally if you’ve got a ton of experiences, it’s usually advisable to highlight your experiences before your educational details.
Skills/Achievements –
I’m sure you couldn’t wait for this part. You love to showcase your talents and celebrate your achievements right? This is where you do it. Talk about your special abilities and the outstanding knowledge you have about certain things. Example; computer skills, management skills, Communication skills, etc. Also, you are free to let us know about the involvement in projects that were successfully launched by your team and things like that.

Note the Following:
- Use professional emails and correct phone numbers. If a prospective employer finds your CV interesting, he/she will contact you through these channels. Don’t disappoint one of the world’s least expectations of you please.
- Your Date of Birth is not a necessary detail unless you want to give out that information.
- The list of your professional experiences and Education should be in an order where “most recent” comes first.
- Stating “wonderful” hobbies and social interests such as “reading”, “making friends” etc, are outdated. The world has evolved, why don’t you follow suit?
- Do not exaggerate or lie about any information on your CV. It’s risky because technology has made it easier to detect such false gestures.
- Different Job descriptions require different tones and CV details. Ensure you’re submitting the right CV for the right job, with the right information and experiences.
- References are entirely optional expecially at the first stage of your job application.
- Volunteering is an experience that can boost your profile in many ways you can’t imagine. While waiting to land a “big” job, don’t stay idle. Find an organisation to volunteer and document the process and experience. It helps!
- If you’re encountering some difficulties in writing a standard CV, you can contact a professional to help you out now.
- There are other information which would be given on one on one basis. Send an email to [email protected] if you’re interested.
These days, you’ve got to be intentional about building both your individual and career personality.
Seriously, the right opportunities come to people who are intentionally and strategically placed at the positions where they meet with these opportunities.
You cannot present yourself anyhow and expect a recognition from far and wide. It’s the step by step process towards setting a worthy standard that makes the difference.
Again, your CV is you, packaged in a few minutes read. Be intentional about it!
