Afrobeat, one more time, makes a global difference in history, through WizKid’s song “essence”, featuring fast rising artist, Tems, in the top 200 most Shazamed music in the USA.
History one more time reminds us of where it all began, in the 1960s with renowned Fela Anikulakpo Kuti, who was regarded for his participational popularity in sociopolitics and Pan-Africanism.
Not just was his voice heard through activism, music was the highest form of his expressions. Fela spoke and breathed music, with his style which made a global resonance in mixtures of jazz and highlife. With several international acts of significance and relevance, Fela, even though dead now, still feeds us entertainment through his progenies in the industry.
Sieving through the African Entertainment industry are several names of reckon. And for each name, is a uniqueness that trumps ordinary creativity. One would say that there must be a lot to think of when relating to these great artists in the Industry.

Just recently, Wizkid’s deluxe “essence”, featuring Tems, a fast rising artist with a recognizable artistic chemistry with Wizkid, was just announced to have topped America’s Shazam’s chart in its online publication of the top 200 most Shazamed songs in the US.
Created by London-based Shazam Entertainment and owned by Apple Inc. since 2018, Shazam is a software application that can automatically identify music, movies, commercials, and TV shows based on short samples played. Compatible with this device is Android, Wear OS, iOS, watchOS, BlackBerry OS, MacOS and Windows Phone systems. This compatibility with these sophisticated digital systems makes it easy for all users to access its functions and connect with resonating songs such as WizKid’s.
Despite its release in October 2020, the song “Essence”, a single in Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” album, has gained so much recognition and even with a remix, featuring Global pop star, Justin Bieber.
