At the shore, are seeming impossibilities. Some grandiose, others, minimal yet disturbing. At the shore are discouragements of different sorts, trials of several magnitudes, intentions and dispositions of different versions, many tales of “if wishes were horses” and the likes. However, getting to where opportunities abound takes a just a bold step to the other side and the choice of the medium through which you get to the other side, is totally up to you and this very process requires several doses of insight, of actions and relevant strides because there are lots of opportunities that lie beyond the shores of life and you can’t see them by just being static at the shore, counting your discouragements and limitations.
Guard your moves with all diligence, steadily apply positive witnesses to all your intentions. Prepare your mind. Prepare your mind towards the inconsistencies of your thoughts, towards moving forward. Prepare your consciousness towards receiving, without despair, all the discouragements that is evident in the process so as to be able to translate them to testimonies after, you have gone beyond them. Also, prepare your mind for the awesome harvest which is, after the seed of determination and foresight has been sown.
Where you’re going to is different from where you’re coming from. You’re coming from a place of relaxation; of comfort; of ease; of cliche perceptions; of contentment not so absolute, because, “why will you be totally contented with mediocrity?” Take for instance, an intending graduate in Nigeria has an immediate quest and enthusiasm towards the next step, only nationally recognised – NYSC, knowing the implications of not doing it in regards to the Government’s expectations and requirements for an ‘average’ job offer. And this national yearning of young graduates can only be said to be a fountain of ease because NYSC is not the REAL WORLD. It’s just the Government’s ambition to fulfil its selfish desires of North and South integration. On a lighter note, after NYSC, do you pause to ask yourself “now that I have joined north and south together, in understanding their culture et all, what is left for me in the middle?” Hahaha! Now, that should further strengthen the point that, It’s a national dream which in the very least, has no direct impact on you, except of course the exposure (which one can still get by launching into the REAL WORLD). It’s just an illusion and one of those distractions from the real quest, which is embedded in distinguishing oneself from conventionalities and the environmental statusquo. The question after all is said and done becomes “I’m done with NYSC, what’s next?”
To answer your question, I’d say that you —
- Examine what you have on the table -(Your skills and interests). Also, explore other skills because as the world evolves, demands for certain knowledge increases and these skills help you to grow in mind and character.
- Explore your vision and mission statements, as it is with diverse companies and even your “hallowed” NYSC.
- In exploring all of the above, there should be a question of “how does this help me?” Because, when you’re in the streets (real world) you discover competitions, you discover seeming impossibilities and limitations and you wonder if there could ever be a better life. It is this question you ask yourself that would direct your path towards the real purpose of your engagement and prune your mindset, letting you conceive what is relevant and discard what’s not.
- Know that the beginner stage of everything in life, including the skills we need is no joke and that is where growth lies. The beginning is as relevant as the advanced stage. Just aspire to MOVE that’s the point. That’s the inspiration.
Distinction comes with preparation and all the arsenal that aids your preparations and subsequent development is just the intentional advances you make towards being better, generally. In preparation, you need to discipline yourself, your thoughts and approach to most conditions. It is expected that if you start now, following the due process of “one step at a time”, in 5 years, you’d be fully packaged and already unleashing as an established brand in your field or expertise; exploring solutions to problems (as they abound) and also continuously advertising yourself and recieving feedbacks, which in turn, shapen the general outlook of your brand. Visibility is key and the repitition therein, is expedient.
All that you need to advance is in your hands. Thankfully, the internet has made it easier to access these keys that unlock diverse values. It’s only up to you to tap in. In all of these opportunities, both paid and free, lies a factor which must be put into good use – Time – Time is a sacrifice you should make and you should maximize it by being consistent, efficient and relevant in your field of interest and growth.
Furthermore, as much as you can, Observe. Explore. Observe. Make relevant moves towards the goals that you have set for your brand. Study the global market steadily, find a problem you can solve, find a loop hole you can leverage on, utilize any and every opportunity that resonates with your systems and your brand and watch the magic it makes!
Note also, that the value that connection brings can never be overemphasized. At every point, associate yourself with people and things that will be of great value to you. Value doesn’t have to be all rosy because there’d be wolves to set you back but that teaches you determination and opens your eyes better to the real world.
I only hope that you can look beyond those shores and START, at least.
